Here are the top four stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- The weather was nearly perfect on Sunday, and today looks to be a repeat performance. Still, authorities have warned of a strong threat of rip current activity in the waters off Horry and Georgetown counties. Be prepared. The ocean is powerful! Check beach reports before you venture out to the sun and sand. Be careful out there! (WMBF) (wpde.com)
- The American Red Cross is providing assistance to two families displaced from a late-night house fire in the Burgess area near St. James High School. The blaze happened around 11 p.m. on Saturday night on Forbes Drive. Five people in total were impacted by the fire, which is under investigation. (WBTW)
- Are you actively looking for a new home, or are you just curious about what's available on the market? Look no further because Patch and Redfin have compiled this list of five properties for sale in the Myrtle Beach area. Click on an address in the article to take a look inside one of these condos or single-family homes now available on the Grand Strand. (Myrtle Beach Patch)
- Gasoline prices in the Myrtle Beach area have decreased about 13 cents per gallon over the last week, according to AAA. The average price in South Carolina is now $4.32 — well below the national average of $4.81. Horry County comes in at $4.30 per gallon on average. Out-of-state visitors coming to the Grand Strand for the holiday weekend saw that as a welcome respite from surging gas prices. AAA has gas-saving tips for drivers on its website, and in the article here: (WBTW)

I'm always appreciative when I find out a friend is also one of my readers! Today's photo came in from my friend, Fereshteh Azad who snapped this pic of orange skies over the water in North Myrtle Beach. Thanks for the pretty picture, Fereshteh!

- There's lots of live, local music all up and down the Grand Strand on the Fourth of July. Check out where your favorite artists are playing using MyrtleLive's calendar. (MyrtleLive.com)
- Myrtle Beach Police Department: Know before you go! Check out the fireworks rules for the City of Myrtle Beach in this video by Officer Lively. (Myrtle Beach Police Department via Facebook)
- More pets run away on the 4th of July than any other day of the year in the United States. Experts suggest making sure your pet has identification and a microchip. For dogs, take a long walk before visitors arrive or before fireworks go off in your neighborhood. Keep pets away from the barbecue grill, skewers, trash and corn cobs. Leave pets at home if you're going to a fireworks show. (Center For Canine Behavior Studies)
- The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach posted a reminder that through September 15, dogs are not allowed on the beach in North Myrtle Beach from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Leashed canine pals are allowed early morning, or in the evening. Always pick up after your pet! (The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach via Facebook)
- Myrtle Beach Convention Center: July 5 – 9, Believe National Talent Competition returns to the Myrtle Beach Convention Center for their national dance competition. The competition is being livestreamed via the DanceBug app, too. (DanceBug.com)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
