Welcome back, Myrtle Beach! It's Monday, so let's get you started with everything you need to know going on along the Grand Strand. Today I'll tell you about a murder charge in a weekend shooting, the Pier Outreach fishing education program, doggies take to the red carpet for a good cause, divers recover a body near Yauhannah Landing, and HCFD's first Black firefighter was laid to rest.

First, today's weather: Clouds, sunshine and humid throughout the day, with stray thunderstorms. High: 85 Low: 76.

Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. A deadly shooting occurred Saturday night around 7:30 p.m. at 14th Avenue South in Myrtle Beach. The victim died from their injuries after being taken to the hospital. The suspect was located and arrested almost immediately. He was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. At a Sunday hearing, the suspect was denied bond. (WMBF)
  2. The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources program, Pier Outreach, continues along the Grand Strand. It's an education program aimed at fishing novices that teaches folks about marine wildlife. The all-volunteer program was a big hit at Garden City Pier recently, and approximately 700 visitors and residents have participated so far this summer. (WMBF)
  3. This weekend, I stopped in at NMB Flea Market where vendor, Woof Woof Fashions, hosted a dog rescue fashion show over the weekend. Owner Sheri Trager lost everything in a recent fire at the flea market. The event was a grand re-opening for her boutique, as well as an adoptable dogs event for Kind Keepers Animal Rescue. News13 caught all the action on camera. (WBTW)
  4. Divers recovered the body of a drowning victim from Yauhannah Landing in Horry County over the weekend. 26-year-old De'Quan Casey of Hemingway, SC fell victim to an accidental drowning. SCDNR was called to the scene Saturday afternoon. (MyHorryNews.com)
  5. Horry County's first Black firefighter was honored by family, friends, community, and fellow first responders at his funeral in Myrtle Beach. Johnny Simpson joined the Myrtle Beach Fire Department in 1972, and enjoyed being involved in the community in many ways. (WPDE)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
