Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- Horry County Council has approved new animal care and treatment rules, and had its first reading of new fireworks rules. The animal-care ordinance was passed with the help of several organizations who worked together for over a year to make sure specific conditions are in place for pets and livestock in Horry County. The proposed fireworks ordinance, if approved, would make it unlawful to discharge fireworks in areas that will be designated as County No Fireworks Areas, and fines would be imposed. (WBTW)
- Pine Lakes Tavern held its 6th annual Project Claus care-package program to gather 100 holiday gift boxes to send to soldiers deployed overseas. The packages will be given to Wounded Warriors, who will distribute the boxes to soldiers. Contained in the packages will be candy, reading material, tobacco products, dry goods, toiletries, games and more. (wpde.com)
- It's not etched in stone yet, but Challenge Axeccepted, an axe-throwing venue, is heading for approval in Myrtle Beach. The Pennsylvania-based company has made some strides in setting up its venue in a highway commercial district within the city's jurisdiction. There's still more to be done, and one Planning Commission member voted against the proposal. (WMBF)
- After additional information was released yesterday in the death of Sheridan Wahl, the Florence County Coroner came forward to help clarify some questions. Keith von Lutcken explained that Wahl was dropped off at a fire station by a man who picked her up 10 miles away, near where her car had been burned. The driver said, when questioned by investigators, that he dropped Wahl off at the fire station due to ‘erratic’ behavior. (CBS17.com)
- City officials in North Myrtle Beach are busy! The City Council had a workshop to address congestion near the Cherry Grove boat ramps. Anyone who has gone boating or fishing in Cherry Grove knows how traffic can get backed up and congested on the ramps, AND in the water. (WMBF) The city of NMB also filed a lawsuit against a Conway campground. The lawsuit alleges that the Carolina Pines RV Resort was illegally using a beach cabana outside of zoning limits. The city has filed a temporary restraining order against the campground, amid complaints from neighboring residents near the cabana house. (MyHorryNews.com)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
