Here's a look at Friday's weather:

Humid with plenty of sunshine. High: 80 Low: 69.

Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. Horry County Fire Rescue has determined that a blaze that destroyed the Windjammer Pub in Little River on September 29th originated outside of the building. However, it has classified the cause of the fire as undetermined. There were no injuries in the overnight fire at the popular restaurant and bar. The fire caused the roof to collapse, and destroyed the entire building. Officials are asking anyone with information to call (843) 915-5606. (WMBF)
  2. More new guidelines from Horry County schools and SCDHEC state that if a student is exposed to COVID-19 in the classroom, as long as they were masked-up at the time, they will not need to quarantine at home. Students must also be symptom-free. The previous quarantine guidelines stated that both the infected person and the person exposed must have been masked to avoid quarantine. The new steps were implemented as cases continue to trend downward. (WBTW)
  3. Myrtle Beach is ready to welcome back visitors from Canada and Mexico now that President Biden has reopened the borders for non-essential travel beginning in November. Canadians are the largest group of international visitors to the Grand Strand, and they've been missed for almost two years. Approximately 3% of the city's 20 million visitors in 2019 were Canadians who visit here during the off season, from November to February. (wpde.com)
  4. Violent crimes in Myrtle Beach are down this year as compared to 2019, but murders increased during the summer months. Gregg Smith of the Myrtle Beach City Council says that violent crime has been decreasing for over a decade. There were four murders in the summer months of 2021, compared with one each in 2019 and 2020 during the same time frame. This year was the Grand Strand's busiest summer on record. The MBPD released violent crime data this week through a Freedom Of Information Act request. (WBTW)
  5. The Horry County Animal Care Center received a gigantic donation of pet supplies last week from Chewy and the Humane Society of the United States. The supplies will be offered to community members in need. Residents can contact the shelter and make arrangements to pick up a bag of cat or dog food. The shelter and Conway Ford have teamed up for an adoption event at Conway Ford this Saturday, October 16th. Anyone who adopts a pet at the event will get a free bag of food. (WMBF)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
