(crimeandcask.com) — A Newberry County man, Gary Lane Prewitt, spent nearly 30 years in prison for a 1994 rural shooting and burglary before a judge granted a new trial and prosecutors dismissed his case. He enjoyed only nine months of freedom before his death, while questions about DNA evidence, a recanting witness, and who actually committed the crime still hang over Newberry County.
