Orangeburg County enacts moratorium on new data centers amid public debate (wltx.com) — Orangeburg County Council has temporarily halted new data center applications, giving officials time to study their impact on local infrastructure, water use, and residents' quality of life. The pause follows heated public hearings, with some residents opposing large facilities and one developer urging a path forward for a smaller, locally focused project that would invest in downtown Orangeburg and hire local workers.
   

2. Wisconsin student finds support to grow at SC State (thetandd.com) — A new South Carolina State University freshman has moved to Orangeburg from Wisconsin and is already looking for ways to get involved in local community work while pursuing a psychology degree. Backed by a major scholarship, she chose SC State for its HBCU environment, supportive campus community, and opportunities to grow academically and in leadership. Her long-term goal is law school and a career in criminal law.
   

3. HBCU D2 contender gets major respect from South Carolina State (hbcugameday.com) — South Carolina State is hosting a highly anticipated matchup against Division II Virginia State in Orangeburg this Saturday at 6 p.m., and the Bulldogs are taking their visitors very seriously. Head coach Chennis Berry praised Virginia State's explosive offense and dual-threat quarterback, warning fans that despite SCSU's strong start, this game could be one of their toughest early-season tests.
   

4. Teenager dies in apparent drowning at South Carolina lake, coroner says (thestate.com) — A 17-year-old from nearby Holly Hill died in an apparent drowning at Lake Marion on Labor Day, while another teen was pulled from the water and resuscitated by an Orangeburg County deputy. Authorities responded near Indian Bluff Recreation Park, and the sheriff's and coroner's offices are continuing to investigate as the community mourns the sudden holiday tragedy.
   

5. 'Bed full of maggots': Orangeburg man charged with child endangerment, neglect (abcnews4.com) — Orangeburg County deputies have charged a 25-year-old man after discovering a 1-year-old with severe injuries and finding a Mannlicher Drive home in filthy, insect-infested conditions with no water or power. Investigators also rescued a vulnerable woman reportedly lying in a bed contaminated with maggots and rotten food, and a judge has set the suspect's bond at $135,000.
