1. Spartanburg Co. deputies say missing, endangered man may be in Easley, Anderson (foxcarolina.com) — Spartanburg County deputies are asking for your help finding Terry Jason Galloway, a missing and endangered man last heard from Thursday and possibly driving a black Dodge Ram with South Carolina plate 470CUF. He may be in the Easley or Anderson area; anyone with information is urged to call 911 or Investigator Federico at 864-503-4591 immediately.
2. South Carolina agencies give sendoff to troops deploying to Middle East (myfox8.com) — Spartanburg County fire and law enforcement agencies lined Interstate 85 bridges with American flags Sunday to salute a local Army National Guard unit deploying to the Middle East for at least 400 days. Boiling Springs firefighters, some of whom are deploying, joined the sendoff for Company B of the 4th Battalion, 118th Infantry Regiment based nearby in Cherokee County.
3. Logistics company to lay off workers at Spartanburg County facility (thestate.com) — A logistics company operating in Spartanburg County plans to lay off 205 workers at its Greer facility at the end of October, affecting support operations for the nearby BMW plant. Company officials say their contract in the Upstate is ending but note a new service provider may create future job opportunities, and they're working with state and local resources to assist employees.
4. Supreme Court ruling could weaken Black voting power across the South (islandpacket.com) — A recent Supreme Court decision on redistricting has voting‑rights advocates warning that Black political power could be weakened across the South, including in a Spartanburg precinct on the city's south side. That precinct, currently in the county's only state House district held by a Black lawmaker, is cited as an example of how future map changes could affect local representation and everyday neighborhood services.
5. Duke Energy Makes a Big Nuclear Power Play (fitsnews.com) — Duke Energy is weighing whether to build a large new nuclear reactor at its W.S. Lee Station in Cherokee County, about 25 miles east of Spartanburg, or pursue small modular reactors in North Carolina. The choice could shape future power supply, infrastructure investment, and long‑term electricity costs for Upstate communities, including Spartanburg households and businesses served by Duke.
