With county matching funds, the $1.1 million project targets long-standing safety concerns for children and pedestrians, with construction expected to follow phase one beginning in 2027.
• Local, family-owned store in Summerville to close after more than 20 years (live5news.com) — A longtime Summerville business, Ferguson Family Mattress on Azalea Square Boulevard, is closing permanently after more than 20 years in town. The family-owned shop will hold an invitation-only going-out-of-business sale starting September 16, followed by a public sale beginning September 17, giving local residents a final chance to shop before doors close for good.
• Charleston Battery sign Summerville native Briggs Gwozdo, Indiana native Aarav Nihalani to USL Academy contracts (holycitysinner.com) — A Summerville native, 17-year-old midfielder Briggs Gwozdo, has signed a USL Academy contract with the Charleston Battery, keeping a local talent in the Lowcountry soccer spotlight. Gwozdo, a standout at Pinewood Prep and South Carolina Surf SC, joins Indiana forward Aarav Nihalani and could feature as early as the Battery's upcoming match.
