McElveen donates $10,000 to Dorchester Paws in Monday check presentation (abcnews4.com) β Dorchester Paws just received a $10,000 boost from McElveen Buick GMC at a check presentation held Monday afternoon in Summerville, helping the shelter continue caring for abused and abandoned animals countywide. The dealership, a longtime supporter, emphasized that backing the shelter strengthens the whole community and builds on its earlier donation of a transport van.

2. Celebration of life for fallen CCSO deputy Michael Hendricks to be held Wednesday (counton2.com) β A celebration of life for Charleston County Sheriff's Deputy Michael Hendricks will be held today at Faith Church in Summerville, where the community can pay their respects. Hendricks, 33, died in a Ladson Road crash while on duty, and his family asks that memorial donations go to Serve and Connect's Tragedy Response Program instead of flowers.

Lowcountry advocate and prostate cancer survivor head to DC to push for cancer legislation (abcnews4.com) β Summerville resident Shelby Duckett is in Washington, D.C., this week with fellow advocate Lee Moultrie to push for stronger cancer research funding and easier access to clinical trials. They'll meet with members of Congress and urge South Carolina lawmakers to support the bipartisan Clinical Trial Modernization Act, aiming to help more patients, including rural and low-income residents, join lifesaving studies.

Ten arrested, 308 grams of drugs recovered after Berkeley County search warrant in Ladson (abcnews4.com) β A Berkeley County drug raid in Ladson led to ten arrests and the seizure of more than 300 grams of narcotics and two firearms, with two of those charged listing Summerville as their residence. Charges range from simple marijuana possession to trafficking cocaine and attempted murder, and deputies are still seeking another suspect on a cocaine warrant.
