• Summerville officials vote on final review of comprehensive plan (live5news.com) — Summerville leaders are taking a final vote on the five-year update to the town's "Our Town, Our Future" comprehensive plan, which will immediately guide zoning, housing, infrastructure, and commercial growth. Changes focus on areas like Nexton, the I‑26 corridor, and parts of downtown, following months of public input. Residents can expect more commercial space and potential family‑friendly amenities as growth continues.
• Noteworthy events to know about at The Citadel in October 2026 (citadel.edu) — One of this month's Citadel‑related events comes right to Summerville, with an American Foundation for Suicide Prevention "Out of the Darkness" walk at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25 at Gahagan Park. The free event invites local residents to join The Citadel's psychology team in honoring loved ones, raising awareness, and supporting suicide‑prevention research and services, with options to walk, register online, or donate.
• SCDOT says it terminated traffic control contractor after I-26 construction delays led to hourslong traffic backup (counton2.com) — Drivers from Summerville to downtown Charleston recently endured a commute that ballooned from about 20 minutes to three hours after an I‑26 work zone wasn't cleared on time. SCDOT has since fired the traffic control contractor, disciplined staff, and changed procedures to ensure lane‑closure equipment is removed promptly after overnight work. Officials say they're working to prevent a repeat of the gridlock.
