The Ashley Ridge football team may not have superstars, but it has soul.
"We don't have the most talented football players out there but we try to make up for that with hard work," Coach Kenny Walker said.
Walker began official practice with his players last week and will square off against Beaufort High School during a scrimmage this week.

The first game is against Cane Bay on Aug. 26 at home.
Walker said the plan this year is to get to a playoff game. The team finished 6-7 last year.

"We know it's going to be difficult," Walker said.
The team graduated quarterback Cameron Cox last year in addition to other team leaders, he added. But the team has become a finely tuned muscle, built for speed.
"Our biggest asset is probably our team speed," Walker said.
He credited team work outs, and strength and conditioning coaches working with players. Fourteen players can run the 40 in under 4.6 seconds, Walker said. When the school first opened, only one player on the team could run the 40 in 4.7 seconds.
