Birdsong Submits Petition Signatures
Dorchester County Council District 6 Democratic candidate Miriam Birdsong files 70 pages of signatures to appear on November ballot.

Miriam Birdsong brought more than 800 signatures to the Dorchester County Board of Elections and Voter Registration office Friday in an effort to remain on the ballot in the general election.
Birdsong, running as a Democrat for Dorchester County Council District 6, was . Those errors have plagued non-incumbents all over the Palmetto state since parties were following rules that did not give correct information on proper filing procedure.

After review and approval by county elections board, Birdsong's name will appear on the November ballot as an independent candidate.
She’ll face Republican incumbent Bill Hearn.
Monday is the last day for any independent candidate to submit petitions to run for office. Friday, Birdsong dropped off 70 pages containing 807 signatures. Required to get a minimum of 604 signatures of registered voters in the district, Birdsong originally set 750 as a goal.
Meredith Murray, county manager of voter registration, said it may take two weeks to review and approve the petition.

Birdsong will appear at an event with two other female Democratic candidates this Sunday at Pine Forest Country Club. S.C. House District 97 incumbent Rep. Patsy Knight and U.S. House District 1 candidate Bobbie Rose will be at the event.
