Book of the Week: The Hunger Games

Add The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins to your list of books written for young adults that have found a huge crossoveraudience among adults.

The Twilight series and Harry Potter novels attracted adults in huge numbers,and the release of movies based on these books were hits. Collins’ trilogy (The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mockingjay) have attracted attention for over a year, and when the first movie is released this March, expect to feel left out if you haven’t read these exciting books.

The violent, fast-paced action scenes, gripping characters, and descriptions of a dystopian future capture the imaginationof young and old alike.

Collins reels the reader into the ultimate game of “Survivor,” one in which only the victor emerges alive. When 16-year-old protagonist Katniss Everdeen volunteers to takeher younger sister’s place as one of her district’s sacrificial entries to the cruel “Hunger Games,” the action rolls with increasing intensity until the final page.
