Flip Floppin' George Bailey (Again)

Update: In this morning's Post and Courier, Bailey has said he originally wanted to tack on the responsibilities of the county emergency management director to the fire coordinator's position. Read that story here. Latest news now is that Mr. Bailey does not want to combine the fire coordinator position with the EMD Director, but that he doesn't want to hire an emergency planner position. This saves no money as this position has not been filled for three years!

George Bailey the councilman from District 7 is flip floppin’ again on critical issues for our county.

In this morning's Post and Courier, Bailey has said he wants to tack on the responsibilities of the county emergency management director to the fire coordinator's position. Read that story here. This is after he told Patch that he would hire a full-time director.

He is expected to make his recommendation to council on the position tonight.

As a Democrat, I believe in good, efficient government. I think Bailey just believes in no government. One critical job that we the citizens of Dorchester County count on the county government to do is emergency preparation — in other words get ready for the next hurricane!  

We all know we need a skilled professional to head that up for our county.  

Our county EMD director left, and instead of hiring a new EMD director, Bailey wanted to make it a second duty to an existing job. This is a very bad idea — as the entire council was told by its citizens at the July 5^th County Council meeting. 

Bailey then told of our own Patch.com that he had changed his mind, and would support a full-time professional EMD director. Now we read in the Post & Courier that he either did not tell Street the truth, or has flip flopped again on this issue and wants the EMD Director job combined with another job – all to save $48,000 a year. 

Do you know how much it will cost the county if when the hurricane hits and we do not have a solid plan to handle this emergency — and probably with loss of life — not worth $48,000 in my books.

Bailey has a history of flip floppin’.  Remember at one time he was a Democrat and told everybody in the party he was running again as a Democrat. And five minutes before the deadline to register to run, he flip-flopped and became a born-again Republican. 

He also tried to tell people he served his country as a Marine.  Bailey never served his country on active duty. Turns out  as a high school boy he went to a Marine “boy scout” camp.  He finally admits that experience did not make him a Marine. Here's a story where he clarifies the "mistake." 

And does he represent where he actually lives? Although he owns a house in District 7, I assume he lives with his wife — a registered Orangeburg County voter! The South Carolina Election Commission has Ann B. Bailey registered to vote in the county. Oh, she was registered in Dorchester County at one point. Right before the 2010 election of her husband. (Of course these could be different Ann Baileys — they just happen to have the same birthdays.)

Democrats believe in a good quality of life for its citizens and an environment that leads to strong job creation. We need a good county government that believes in smart planned growth. We need professionals running our government that is what will make it work and save tax money. We need efficient and effective county government.
