For a person like myself, who believes in the principles of self-ownership, freedom, and non-aggression, this last election was difficult to watch.
First, there was no viable candidate on the national level that actually stood for anything good. Both candidates stood for government force, government theft, and government spending. Both stood for the welfare/warfare state, they just bickered and argued about the rates at which they would steal, subsidize, redistribute, control, murder, and detain. It was very depressing.

Second, at the state level, at least half of the voters weren't even aware that there were good quality petition candidates on the ballot, and only one non-establishment candidate won their race: Katrina Shealy. Of course, that only happened because the state GOP broke precedent and threw money into her campaign.
Last, at the local level, the voters fell for the oldest trick in the book. The "do it for the children" pleas of a group of construction companies and developers, who got the gullible public to spend nearly $200 million on new construction projects for them.
