Chimney Fire Starts Blaze on Main Street
Saturday night fire blocked off street from Hampton Street to Carolina Avenue.

A fire at 816 S. Main St. led emergency responders to shut down portions of the street from Hampton Street to Carolina Avenue on Saturday night.
got the call at 5:28 p.m. after the fire originated in the home's chimney, according to Battalion Chief Ronny Bryant.
The fire spread from the chimney and into the attic, where firefighters reached it by cutting a hole in the ceiling, he said. Firefighters left the scene just before 10 p.m.

Bryant said residents with chimneys should inspect the integrity before lighting a fire.
"The big thing is look at their chimneys to make sure there's no cracks," Bryant said. "Most of the time it's usually cracks in the chimney (that cause a house fire)."

The home sustained some fire and water damage, according to Bryant.
