Coastal Center Patient Alleges Sexual Assault

Staff at The Coastal Center reported an alleged sexual assault that occured between two patients Feb. 10. 

A state- and federally funded facility, The Coastal Center helps mentally and physically disabled citizens.

According to the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office report, the alleged victim told his caretaker about an incident, where another patient allegedly raped him. The incident was then brought to the attention of the facility director, who began an investigation within hours of the alleged incident. 

During the course of the investigation, the facility discovered evidence that seemed to support the allegations.
