District: Rumors of Threats at Cane Bay 'Unfounded'
Berkeley County School District increases law enforcement presence at Cane Bay High.

Cane Bay High had 20 additional law enforcement officers at the school early Monday morning in response to rumors circulating on social media of potential violence.
Officials have not found a specific or credible threat tied into the rumors, district spokeswomen Kathie Sizemore said.
Normally, each high school and middle school in the district has one student-resource officer on hand, but Monday morning the district decided to step up the number of officers to 20 to help ease concerns among parents and students, Sizemore said.

"Everybody is safe; it's business as usual," Sizemore said. "There is nothing that is based in fact. Everything is unfounded."
Sizemore said the presence of the officers will continue to dwindle, but the district will maintain a strong officer presence until the rumors ebb.

According to The Post and Courier, Berkeley County Sheriff's Maj. Ricky Driggers said the rumors dealt with a possible shooting at the school but authorities have "found no truth behind them."
