Dorchester Two Addresses Parking Fees

Dorchester School District Two will discuss reducing parking fees at high schools and will continue referendum workshop Thursday.

The Dorchester School District Two board was scheduled to meet 4 p.m. Thursday for an executive session with no other items on the agenda.

Now the agenda has been amended to include a discussion on lowering parking fees for students.

Dorchester School District Two board member Tanya Robinson asked during Monday's regular meeting to add reducing high school parking fees to the board's agenda.

At 5 p.m. Thursday, the board will continue its workshop exploring.

Parking fees were also on the mind of parent Kristine Schaffer, who addressed the board during the public comments period after Robinson made the request.

Schaffer — the night's only speaker during the public comment period — complained about the $100 parking fee at Ashley Ridge High School, stating that other schools only charge $25.

Schaffer also gave support to the board moving forward on a 2012 referendum to help produce "smaller classroom sizes," she said.
