FBI Reports 157 Violent Crimes in Summerville 2010
Violent crimes statistics hold steady in Summerville for last four reporting years.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation reported today that Summerville had 157 violent crimes and Dorchester County had 370 violent crimes in 2010.
The town has wavered between 137 and 163 violent crimes for the last four reporting years. Compared with a city of a similar size, Spartanburg with 646 violent crimes in 2010, the town's violent crime rate appears fairly low.

- one murder;
- eight forcible rapes;
- 103 aggravated assaults;
- 1,611 crimes on property;
- 240 burglaries;
- 1,291 larceny-thefts;
- 80 vehicular thefts;
- and four arsons.
In 2010, Dorchester County had:
- one murder;
- nine forcible rapes;
- 74 aggravated assaults;
- 2,536 crimes on property;
- 833 burglaries;
- 1,481 larceny-thefts;
- 222 vehicular thefts;
- and eight arsons.
Nationally, the estimated number of violent crimes in 2010 declined for the fourth consecutive year. Property crimes also decreased, marking this the eighth straight year that the collective estimates for these offenses declined.

The 2010 statistics show that the estimated volumes of violent and property crimes declined 6.0 percent and 2.7 percent, respectively, when compared with the 2009 estimates. The violent crime rate for the year was 403.6 offenses per 100,000 inhabitants (a 6.5 percent decrease from the 2009 rate), and the property crime rate was 2,941.9 offenses per 100,000 persons (a 3.3 percent decrease from the 2009 figure).
