Former Councilman Dies

Former Dorchester County Councilman Kenny Waggoner died Sunday.

Kenneth Franklin "Kenny" Waggoner Sr., 77, of Dorchester died Sunday, Aug. 21, at Trident Medical Center.

Funeral services for the former county councilman will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, at the Lovely Hill Convention Center with Pastor Craig Crosby officiating.

The family will receive friends beginning at 5 p.m. until the time of service. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the St. George Memorial Gardens.

Wagonner was born on March 8, 1934, a son of the late Bernard Lee and Katie Mae Franklin Waggoner. He was married to and widower of Lois W. Waggoner.

"We are all saddened to hear of the passing of Councilman Kenny Waggoner.  Although Kenny Waggoner was a life-long Democrat, Kenny will be remembered best for serving the citizens of Dorchester County for 34 years," Dorchester County Democratic Chair Richard Hayes wrote in a statement. "Kenny Waggoner was a leader among leaders in Dorchester County, always putting serving the people in his district first and foremost."

Waggoner served his last term on council in 2010. The Democratic Party will have a rememberance for him during the annual Alice Cicenia Dinner Sept. 24.

Memorials may be made to American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, Texas 75231, and the American Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beauregard St., Alexandria, Va. 22311.
