Former Deputy Arrested for Misconduct

Troy Leo Capps of North Charleston arrested Monday for allegedly taking money from residences being searched by Charleston County Sheriff's Office.

S.C. Law Enforcement Division arrested former Charleston County Sheriff's deputy and investigator Troy Leo Capps, 43, of North Charleston Monday.

According to a statement released by SLED, Capps is accused of misconduct in office and grand larceny. He is currently at the Charleston County Detention Center. The case will be prosecuted by the Ninth Circuit Solicitor's Office. 

According to SLED's statement, the Charleston County Sheriff's Office requested the investigation that led to Capps' arrest after two alleged incidents.

On Oct. 25, Capps allegedly took cash from a North Charleston home while executing a search warrant. The cash was later found in the suspect's vehicle, according to the warrant.

On Oct. 27, Capps allegedly took cash, not exceeding $5,000, from a Charleston home while executing a search warrant. The cash was later found on the suspect's person, according to the warrant.
