Video: Fort D Ekes Out 35-24 Win

Patriots turn the ball over four times and have two touchdowns reversed during first game of the season.

Thursday night was "weird."

That's how Fort Dorchester Head Coach Steve LaPrad described the away game where nothing went the Patriots' way, but they still managed to gain a W, with a final score of 35-24 against the Woodland Wolverines.

"It was not pretty," LaPrad said.

According to the coach, the mistakes began with the team taking opponent Woodland "a little lightly" and then began piling up after an interception on the second play of the game that lead to a touchdown for the Wolverines.

On the Patriots' next drive, the team fumbled on the 1-yard line and Wolverines took the ball 99 yards down to make the score 12-0.

Wolverines' kicker did not gain any extra points for the team all night.
Fort D would go on to turn the ball over three times and have two touchdowns reversed on penalties in the first half of the game. The team went into half time with 18-9 score.

"We couldn't possibly have played worse," LaPrad said, calling the night a "quicksand night."

But the coach also lent some credit to Woodland: "Woodland did a great job; they prepared well for us."

But the team with eight returning players on offense and five returning players on defense — and known for producing NFL defensive players — didn't give up.

"They just overcame it," LaPrad said. "You just don't win games like that."

The schedule won't get any easier for the Patriots, who take on Irmo this Friday.

"If it happens again this Friday night, we have a problem," LaPrad said.
