Fort Dorchester Student Earns Academic Scholarship

Kai Holnes is the winner of the Fort Dorchester High Academic Scholarship.

Kai is a well-rounded student who has participated in a variety of extra-curricular activities while excelling academically. During her high school career, she has served in numerous leadership roles including senior class officer, member of Student Council, and the Keystone Club. She has also been involved in marching band, First Robotics and Model UN. Her involvement and leadership in the Girls and Boys Club of America earned her the club’s 2011 South Carolina Youth of the Year Award. All of these high school experiences helped shape her goals for the future.  

In writing about her plans, she said, “Meeting so many hard-working, driven adults and teens gave me the match to start a fire within me.  I will work hard every day to become an excellent mechanical engineer who can create products that will help people all over the world.”
