Man Killed on Highway 78
Traffic along Ladson Road and Highway 78 screeches to a halt after a shooting Wednesday morning.

Charleston County deputies report a man was killed near the intersection of Highway 78 and Ladson Road after the alleged shooter felt he was being carjacked.
According to the sheriff's office, the incident occured at around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday. Traffic was still stalled and being re-routed as of 7 a.m.
The alleged shooter made the 9-1-1 call. When deputies arrived on the scene, he said a vehicle stopped behind his vehicle and one subject got out and approached his car and began to pull on the door, according to a statement by Maj. James Brady.

The driver, fearing a carjacking, shot at the suspect through his driver side window then left the immediate area, stopping further up on Highway 78 to await law enforcement arrival, according to Brady.
The man was shot and killed. The Charleston County Coroner has not released his identity.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident and are attempting to identify the second vehicle or other suspects who may have been occupying the second vehicle.
