Man Killed While Delivering Pizza

Stephawn Sherod Brown arrested on charges of murdering pizza delivery man.

North Charleston Police have arrested a man they say shot a Domino's pizza delivery man at Appian Way Apartments Friday night.

The apartments are on Patriots Boulevard in the lower end of Dorchester County.

According to police, Stephawn Sherod Brown, 18, was one of two suspects who allegedly robbed and then shot Maraleius Birdsong, 20, who was at the apartments delivering a pizza. However, when he tried to make his delivery, the residents told him they did not order any pizza, according to police.

After suffering a gunshot wound to the head, he was transported to MUSC in critical condition where he later died.

Brown was arrested for the incident Saturday. In addition to the charge of murder, he also faces charges of armed robbery. According to police, he lives in the apartment complex where the shooting took place.

Brown will appear in court 11 a.m. Monday.

Police are still attempting to identify the second male subject seen fleeing the area.

In 1987, Mitchell Sims was convicted of the 1985 deaths of two Domino's pizza employees at the restaurant's location in Hanahan. He remains on death row.

In 2007, another similar incident occured in Summerville when Wilson James was murdered delivering pizzas in the Greenhurst area
