Victor Peterson shot while walking down Highway 78 in Summerville.

While walking eastbound down Highway 78, a man was shot in the hip from behind just after midnight on Dec. 17.

Victor Peterson, 21, of North Charleston said he heard a total of four gun shots while walking and then felt something "leaking" on his shoe and realized he had been shot, according to a Summerville Police incident report.

Peterson was driven to Summerville Medical Center where a bullet was discovered to have entered near the right hip. According to the report, Peterson had to undergo surgery to remove the bullet.

Officers have ruled the incident an active investigation and have some leads, according to Capt. Jon Rogers, public information officer. However, Peterson said he did not wish to pursue an aggravated assault charge at the time of the report.

The four gunshots were likely related to a Dorchester County Sheriff's incident report around the same time at Club NV on Highway 78, according to the report.
