From town issues to the national ticket, the GOP plans to keep Dorchester County red, according to Dorchester County Republican Party Chairwoman Carroll Duncan.

According to county Board of Elections, 43.02 percent of registered voters turned out in the 2010 elections. Of those voting "straight ticket," 54.31 percent voted Republican and 41.59 percent voted Democratic. While the county's rural areas have blue precincts, the Summerville precincts has traditionally voted red.
