No Town Violations with Palmetto Summerville

Summerville planning director reports no zoning issues with mental health facility.

Just two weeks after town council of a beleaguered mental health facility, town staff reported no violations.

Director of Planning Charlie Miller said Monday that Palmetto Summerville Behavioral Health was "found to be in compliance."

According to Miller, the facility is also being looked at by "multiple" state agencies. He did not elaborate on which. State Rep. Chris Murphy, R-Summerville, reported that South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control had cited the facility and gave it 15 days to comply. A Freedom of Information Act request has been sent into the government agency by Patch. However, the information has yet to be obtained.

The woes at Palmetto Summerville began in April when residents of the facility escaped. That incident was with different residents. There has also been several .

A new fence is currently being installed to alleviate some of the concerns of nearby residents and town officials. .
