Notes on Votes: Dorchester County Council March 19

Dorchester County Council convened for its regular meeting March 19 at its Summerville chambers.

Councilmen Willie Davis and David Chinnis were not present at the meeting.

Here are the votes:

• Council voted 5-0 to approve a resolution making April Fair Housing Month.
• Council voted 5-0 to approve a resolution honoring the service by Gerald E. Blackwell.
• Council voted 5-0 to give third and final reading to Ordinance 12-04, which refinances outstanding water and sewer bonds at a lower interest rate.
• Council voted 5-0 to move legal residence audit for the county assessor's office in the executive session.
• Council voted 5-0 to approve a truck purchase from the Ashley River Fire Department. 
• Council voted 5-0 to give first reading to a rezoning request for a property owned by Giles N. Branch of Earthsource Engineering. The 1.22-acre property, located on West Butternut Road, is facing a change from planned development district to R-1, single family residential. 
• Council voted 5-0 to give first reading for a rezone of 10 properties on Butternut Road. The rezone would change the 24 acres affected from R-4, multi-family residential, to R-1, single family residential.
• Council voted 5-0 to give first reading for a rezone for four properties on Butternut Road. The rezone would change the 23 acres affected from R-4 to transitional residential. 
• Council voted 5-0 to give second reading for a rezone of a 13.88-acre tract on Orangeburg Road, owned by BayCorp Inc. The rezone would change the suburban residential zoning to R-1, single family residential. 
• Council voted 5-0 to make condemnations recommended by the transportation authority. Properties condemned are located near the intersection of Orangeburg and Dawsons Branch roads.
