Notes on Votes: Summerville Finance Committee March 12

The regular meeting of Summerville Town Council's finance committee met 8 a.m. Monday, March 12. Councilman Bob Jackson was absent from the meeting, which is convened with full council.
Here are the votes made from that meeting:
- Council voted 6-0 to authorize awarding the bid and issuing a purchase order to Beaufort Engineering Services Inc. not to exceed $1,500,000 for concrete road rehabilitation and other road improvements to be paid from the street improvements capital fund.
- Council voted 6-0 to authorize issuing a purchase order to John Deere Company in the amount of $100,386 for a John Deere 6430 cab tractor on state contract plus up to $3,500 for an extended warranty to be paid from the stormwater capital fund.
- Council voted 6-0 to authorize issuing a purchase order to IBIS Signs in the amount of 5,035 for “way-find” signage to be paid from hospitality tax funds. The signs will be from the interstate toward downtown leading visitors to the historic downtown, parking garage and welcome center.
- Council voted 4-2, with Council members Kima Garten-Schmidt and Bill McIntosh voting nay, to authorize a purchase order for sun shades for the Summerville Miracle League field. Funds will be withdrawn from the parks and recreation impact fees.
- Council voted 5-1, with Mayor Bill Collins voting nay, to move forward with an appraisal agreement for a right-of-way on West 2nd South Street, which will allow a property owner to expand his property through a purchase from the town and possibly subdivide his property.
- Council voted 6-0 to bring speed humps to roads slated for resurfacing in Woodlands Estates.
- Council voted 6-0 to slate $100,000 toward moving the town's municipal court from the public safety building to the municipal complex. Of the funds awarded, $52,000 would be used for a generator. The rest would be used to retrofit the building to accommodate the court.
- Council voted 6-0 to move $25,000 from the contingency to the town's demolition fund to address delapidated buildings with safety concerns around town.
- Council voted 6-0 to approve making the chief municipal judge a part-time position with two associate part-time judges. Pay would be $20,000 for the chief judge, and $15,000 for the associate judges, who can either have a law degree or four years judicial experience.
- Council voted 6-0 to go into executive session, which was not slated on the agenda prior to the meeting nor amended during the meeting to accomodate the change. The purpose was to discuss personnel. No action was taken.
