Notes on Votes: Summerville Town Council March 14

Summerville Town Council met March 14 for a regular meeting at its town hall.
Here are the votes taken during the meeting:
- Council voted unanimously for the second and final reading of ordinance to adopt a redistricting plan for council single member districts for the Town of Summerville. .
- Council voted unanimously for the second and final reading of ordinance to amend Chapter 6 entitled “Buildings and Building Regulations”, Article III entitled “Floods”, Divisions 1–4 to update the Town of Summerville’s Floodplain Management Ordinance to correspond with FEMA’s model ordinance
- Council voted 6-1 to pass the second and final reading of an ordinance to Chapter 10 of the Code of Laws of the Town of Summerville entitled “Elections” to change the date of the municipal elections from May to November of odd-numbered years and to provide for a partial or full transfer to Dorchester County. This will be a partial transfer of elections, where the town will still have a municipal election commission. Councilman Bob Jackson opposed the vote because he wanted a full transfer.
- Council unanimously voted to give first reading of an ordinance to amend Article V, Division 2 of the Code of Laws of the Town of Summerville entitled “Purchasing." This will remove the purchasing agent from the town staff.
- Council unanimously voted to give first reading of an ordinance to adopt an outdoor café ordinance and permit.
- Council unanimously voted to authorize a tree ordinance agreement with SCE&G.
- Council unanimously voted to authorize sending notice to property owners being considered for the historic district. One of the three properties considered includes the county's Summerville chambers and human services building known as the Old Hospital.
