
The Parent-Teacher Association hosts its 10th 5K run and walk Run with the Dolphins Saturday.
The cost to participate is $20 for the 5K and $12 for the 1-mile fun run.Â
The elementary school holds the event to promote fitness for children and adults. The run and walk also raise money for student projects, like the Dolphin Tree Project, which helps to provide gifts for needy students.

The run begins at 8 am. at Newington Elementary School, 10 King Charles Circle, Summerville. There is also a 1-mile fun run for children ages 12 and under. The mile run begins at 9:10 a.m.
There are awards for the top male and female finishers, as well as the top 3 male and female finishers in standard 5-year age groups. The top five girls and the top five boys in the mile receive awards.

There are also awards for parent-child teams, teacher-student teams and random finishers. The business or organization that has the largest participation will receive the Biggest Splash Award.
Volunteers are crucial to the success of the race, and the volunteer that contributes the most will receive the Beth LaPoint Volunteer Award.
In conjunction with the race, the PTA held a school-wide T-shirt design contest. The students worked in their art classes to create a design that will be used on this year's race T-shirt. This year's winner was decided on Sept. 26. All participants in the race receive a t-shirt with their registration.
