Shooting Suspect Charged With Attempted Murder

Suspect charged with Aug. 25 incident remains in jail under a $180,000 surety bond.

Shawn Maurice Kitt, 22, faced charges Thursday in connection with an Aug. 23 incident that left .

Bond was set at $180,000, and Kitt remains at Dorchester County Jail in St. George. Kitt has a prior conviction of an aggravated assault and battery.

According to Summerville Police Public Information Officer Capt. Jon Rogers, Kitt allegedly fled police by running through the football field of Gregg Middle School after shooting another man at South Main Mobile Home Park in Summerville.

Both Summerville High and Gregg Middle schools were locked down due to the nearby incident. 

He was and transported to Dorchester County on Thursday.

Kitt is charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm during a violent crime, possession of a firearm on school property and unlawful possession of a firearm by person convicted of a violent offense.
