Outgoing State Supt. of Education Dr. Mick Zais will be the guest speaker at the monthly meeting of the Lowcountry Conservatives in Action on Tuesday, April 1, at 7 p.m.
Dr.
Zais has been an outspoken opponent of the common core standards, which
the state board approved in 2010, shortly before he was elected. Zais
has said the standards are "one-size-fits-all" and that state and local
educators will lose control.
The Lowcountry CIA is a group of
conservatives who meet monthly to discuss national as well as state and
local issues. The group decides on actions that might be taken to
influence issues of concern.
The meetings are held on the first
Tuesday of every month, with a social time at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting
to start at 7. A $3 donation is requested at the door. The meetings,
which are open to the public, are held in the old sanctuary at Ridge Baptist Church, 2168 Ridge Church Road, Summerville 29483.
The group also hosts a free Patriots Movie Night on the third Tuesday of every month. For information call 442-7774.
