Students Failed to Report Pellet Gun Incident

Teachers, administrators at Ladson Elementary were not told of the pellet gun shooting until Tuesday, district says.

When a report was made Tuesday regarding an 11-year-old Ladson Elementary student allegedly shooting fellow students Monday with a pellet gun, one question loomed: why was this incident not reported to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office until the next day?

According to Charleston County School District Communications Specialist Jason Sakran, teachers and administrators did not know of the incident because students failed to report it. When the child again allegedly brought a pellet gun to school next day, his fellow students finally reported him to the school.

"No one said a word until Tuesday morning," Sakran said.

Sakran said swift action was taken "as soon as the teacher and the principal found out."

The principal sent home a letter today with students regarding the incident, and an automated call reached out to parents last night.
