Update: Suspect on the Loose in North Charleston

North Charleston Police report a man has fled authorities; reports of man being armed are false.

Update: 7 p.m. Thursday: Search for suspect has been suspended. Suspect was not apprehended in the search.

Around 2 p.m. Thursday, North Charleston Police officers attempted to stop a man driving a Chevrolet Camaro near Trident Hospital on Highway 78, but the suspect fled and ditched the car near Ashley Phosphate and Cross County roads.

The suspect ran into the woods and officers — joined by K-9 units and the Charleston County Sheriff's Office helicopter — have been searching for the suspect who remains at large as of 4:51 p.m. Thursday.

Officers believe that the suspect may have been involved or have knowledge of several shooting incidents that previously happened in North Charleston. The black male suspect was wearing black shorts and a white tee shirt.

According to public information officer Spencer Pryor, there was no weapon involved in this incident nor did a shooting take place.
