Suspended Magistrate Resigns

State Supreme Court suspends Dorchester County Magistrate Arthur Bryngelson, who resigned the position Friday.

On the same day as receiving an interim suspension from the S.C. Supreme Court, Dorchester County Magistrate Arthur Tuggle Bryngelson Jr. resigned his position Friday.

Reasons for his departure and suspension are currently unknown. 

"We're trying to work it out. I'll leave it at that," Bryngelson said in an interview with The Post and Courier this week

According to the court order, Bryngelson is directed to "immediately deliver all books, records, bank account records, funds, property, and documents relating to his judicial office to the Chief Magistrate of Dorchester County."

The order also prevents Bryngelson from accessing bank accounts related to his judicial office.

Dorchester County has 12 magistrate court judges. According to the S.C. Courts website, Bryngelson is one of two magistrates in the state under interim suspension. Carolyn G. Lemmon of Kingstree is also under suspension.
