Town Approves 475k in Police Expenses

Summerville Town Council begins 2012 by investing in public safety purchases.

Summerville Police Department will receive more than $475,000 in new units and technology to start the new year. 

Town Council convened last Monday during the first finance committee meeting of the year to approve the expenses.

  • 12 Dodge Charges from Benson Chrysler ($284,062)
  • 12 Golden Eagle Radar Units from Kustom Signals ($17,912)
  • 11 In-car video systems from Watch Guard ($57,547)
  • 12 West Chatham Warning Devices ($46,247)
  • 11 markings from Mr. Sign ($4,414)
  • 12 XLT 2500 Radios from Motorola ($42,240)

The $22,611 purchase of a Live Scan Machine, which helps process finger prints and book criminals, was made through federal drug funds. 

An unrelated expense also was approved Monday. The town issued a purchase order of $13,550 to Florence & Hutchinson for engineering design work for the sidewalk along E. Richardson Avenue. The purchase is paid for through Community Development Block Grant funds.
