Town Gives First Reading to 2012 Budget

Summerville moves forward with $26 million operating budget.

Summerville Town Council on Wednesday unanimously approved the first reading of its 2012 budget, which runs on a calendar year and begins on Jan. 1. 

The 2012 operating budget includes $24.8 million in the general fund and a $1 million stormwater budget. No fee or millage increases are on tap for 2012. Town employees also will not receive a cost-of-living increase.

However, five new positions will be created in 2012 — including two police officers.
