Alleged shoplifter switches UPC stickers to buy $11 iPads.

A man has been removing universal product codes, or UPCs, from $11 DVDs and sticking it over the codes of $729 iPads at local Walmarts, according to a Summerville Police incident report.

Summerville Police were dispatched to the Walmart on North Main Street July 18 where loss-prevention officer Cassondra Mears said she was given the heads up by the Goose Creek store about iPads going for 1.5 percent of their price. 

Mears discovered that a similar theft happened in the Summerville store on July 16.

According to the report, a white man removed the UPC labels from two three-packs of DVDs valued at $11. He then asked to see two iPads, where he allegedly places the stickers over the iPad's correct codes. He asked the sales associate to bring the iPads to the front of the store for purchase.

The two iPads and a bottle of water were purchased for $25.59.

According to the incident report, the man met with a white woman near the front of the building and left they left together.
