Video: Concert Honors First-Responders

9/11 memorial concerts paid tribute Saturday to Lowcountry first-responders.

About 800 people — including Dorchester County first-responders and government officials — filled the worship center of Saturday to honor first responders and remember the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001.

Summerville Fire Chief Marc Melfi was among the attendees, despite his department fighting a house fire earlier in the day.

"The main thing is people aren't forgotten," Melfi said.

He added that while the Sofa Super Store fire that claimed nine firefighters' lives (three who had served in Summerville) may be closer geographically, the tragic loss in the terrorist attacks 10 years ago still shakes the first-responder community.

Summerville Mayor Bill Collins introduced the evening's event, which was a concert by Charleston Symphony Orchestra Spiritual Ensemble and Summerville Community Orchestra.
