Upstate couple grabs $500K lottery win on lunch date (foxcarolina.com) โ A local couple's quick stop at the QuikTrip on West Wade Hampton Boulevard in Greer turned a casual lunch date into a $500,000 lottery win. The wife grabbed a scratch-off along with a Palmetto Cash 5 ticket, scratched it in the car, and discovered the life-changing prize, while the store also earned a $5,000 commission.

Planner: Networking events in the Upstate, September 2026 (upstatebusinessjournal.com) โ Several September networking events are happening right in and around Greer, including Greer Chamber meetups at Set Free Alliance in Greenville and Barista Alley Coffee Co. on Trade Street in downtown Greer. Local professionals can also plug into Mauldin, Simpsonville, Greenville and Spartanburg chamber events, plus webinars, wine walks and business-building workshops throughout the month.

3. Smoke incident prompts evacuation at BMW plant (wspa.com) โ A BMW battery assembly plant in Greer was evacuated Thursday morning after smoke was detected, but responders found no active fire and reported no injuries. The company says its safety systems worked as designed and it is reviewing what happened, an important update for Greer residents given BMW's large local workforce and industrial footprint.

Upstate chambers team up for multi-county networking night at Greenville Triumph match (whosonthemove.com) โ Greer-area professionals can join the Greer Chamber and other Upstate chambers for a special networking night at a Greenville Triumph soccer match on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at GE Vernova Park. Tickets start at $20 and include a pre-game mixer in the Beer Garden, game admission, food and drink, and a chance to build cross-county business connections.

5. 'It's gonna hurt': Nonprofits brace for changes to United Way funding (wspa.com) โ Greer Relief, a key Greer nonprofit, is bracing for possible cuts or changes to its United Way of Greenville County funding after the organization shifted its strategy toward ALICE households. Leaders say losing this support, which makes up 7โ8% of their budget, would force tough choices as they scramble to fill potential gaps before the current grant cycle ends December 31.
