• Red Cross plans Lexington County blood drives (lexingtonchronicle.com) — West Columbia residents can roll up their sleeves at a Red Cross blood drive on Sept. 11 at Total Comfort Solutions on Orchard Drive, part of a countywide push to prevent shortages. Several other drives are scheduled across Lexington County and Columbia, with donors receiving a small Hello Kitty-themed thank-you gift while supplies last.

(thestate.com) — Middle schoolers at Gray Collegiate Academy in West Columbia posted some of the strongest English and math scores in the Columbia area on last year's SC READY tests. • Cayce Police investigating fatal hit-and-run collision (abccolumbia.com) — A woman from nearby Cayce was killed in a hit-and-run early Sunday on Frink Street, a route many West Columbia drivers may use. Cayce Police are asking anyone who saw anything or has camera footage to contact investigators or CrimeStoppers as they work to identify the vehicle and driver.
