• Judge denies Maricela Diaz request for new murder trial (mitchellrepublic.com) — A judge in Mitchell has denied Maricela Diaz’s request for a new trial, leaving in place her 80-year sentence for the 2009 killing of Jasmine Guevara in rural Hanson County. After a February hearing and months of legal arguments, the court found Diaz’s original attorneys were not constitutionally ineffective, moving the long-running case closer to final resolution.
