1. Construction concludes as tiny-home village for veterans shows early success (pigeon605.com) — A new 25-home tiny-house village for homeless veterans on North Willow Avenue in Sioux Falls is wrapping up construction and marking the milestone with a ribbon cutting and public tours Wednesday. The Veterans Community Project site is already housing local veterans and families, offering wraparound services, and planning expanded mental health and outreach efforts to reach more people in need.
2. SD National Guard Leader Urges Community Support For New Fighter Jets In Sioux Falls (yankton.net) — South Dakota's adjutant general is urging Sioux Falls business and civic leaders to loudly back the city's bid to host new F-35 fighter jets at Joe Foss Field. With hundreds of local Guard jobs and the base's long-term future in the balance, chambers and residents are being asked to submit letters and support as the Air Force narrows its final locations.
3. Quarry at the Falls kickoff Thursday (keloland.com) — Sioux Falls residents are being invited Thursday to help shape plans for transforming the historic rock quarry east of Falls Park into a year-round recreation area, backed by a $15 million Bezos Earth Fund grant. City staff are considering trails, urban fishing, and family-friendly spaces, and say public feedback at the 4 p.m. "Dream Big at the Quarry" event on North Weber Avenue will guide the final design.
4. SDSU students to showcase engineering at Washington Pavilion (brookingsradio.com) — SDSU is bringing hands-on engineering demos, lunar rover projects, and a public lecture to the Washington Pavilion in downtown Sioux Falls on Oct. 2, alongside a special Open Streets closure of Main Avenue. Families, students, and residents can explore free activities, see NASA competition rovers, and enjoy Free First Friday access to the Kirby Science Discovery Center and Visual Arts Center that evening.
5. From Park Place to Falls Park (keloland.com) — Sioux Falls board game fans are weighing in on what local landmarks, streets, and businesses should appear in a Sioux Falls-themed Monopoly game due out next spring. Players at The Game Chest are pitching everything from major avenues and banks to hospitals and coffee shops, saying a customized board could celebrate the places residents visit and strengthen face-to-face connections around the table.
