1. Smithfield's new Sioux Falls facility faces permit setback (nationalhogfarmer.com) — A Minnehaha County judge has sent Smithfield Foods' conditional use permit back to the Sioux Falls City Council, ruling the city failed to meet key ordinance requirements on safety, groundwater, odor and neighborhood input. 2. Sunday shooting investigation unfolds in east SF (keloland.com) — An east Sioux Falls neighborhood is under investigation after a driver reported being followed and shot at several times around 3 a.m. Sunday, suffering minor injuries. Police later found shell casings in the street and gunfire damage to a nearby home on East Third Street, and are still working to determine whether the incidents are connected.
3. 'A difference of views': President Ben Marcello has left PREMIER Bankcard (argusleader.com) — PREMIER Bankcard's president, Ben Marcello, has left the Sioux Falls-based company after what leadership describes as a mutual "difference of views," with CEO Miles Beacom stepping in as interim president. Third defendant charged in connection with death of 14-year-old McKenna Wendel (newscenter1.tv) — Federal prosecutors have charged a third person, Sioux Falls resident Kevin Chapman, in connection with the disappearance and death of 14-year-old Sioux Falls girl McKenna Wendel. Investigators allege Chapman supplied cocaine to co-defendant Mark Milk, who then took Wendel from Sioux Falls to northern Iowa, where authorities believe she died of an overdose before her body was later found in Brookings County.
