• In Last-Minute Move, Clay County Slashes 2027 Budget (yankton.net) — Clay County commissioners have approved a 2027 budget that completely eliminates county funding for several programs, including the Wakonda public library and regional transit services, to pursue property tax relief. The 3–2 vote also trimmed planned raises for county employees and sparked criticism from one commissioner, who argues the cuts were rushed, minimally reduce taxes, and will instead build reserves. Residents can weigh in further during a November sales-tax referendum.
