It's In The Game: Murfreesboro Man Playing 'Call Of Duty' Accidentally Fires Real Gun

MURFREESBORO, TN — Popular video game "Call of Duty" is lauded by critics and gamers alike for its realistic simulation of warfare and, according to police, a Murfreesboro man got so engrossed in the fake shooting, he accidentally perpetrated a real one.

A 75-year-old woman found a hole in the wall of her apartment and part of a discharged rifle round nearby and called Murfreesboro Police. Next door, they discovered 21-year-old Aaron Curtis playing the game with a loaded AR-15 rifle sitting in his lap, according to a police report.

"While playing the game Mr. Curtis stated that he got into the game and the rifle accidentally went off," the report says.

It was not clear exactly how the gun went off or why Curtis had the rifle in his lap in the first place.

Thankfully, the bullet went low, though the neighbor said it did nearly strike her dog.

Curtis, who owns the gun legally, is charged with misdemeanor reckless endangerment.
