Sweetwater Man Gets Prison For Posing As University Of Tennessee Player To Extort Women

KNOXVILLE, TN — A Sweetwater, Tennessee, man who admitted he posed as a University of Tennessee football player on a mobile messaging app to extort women was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison.

Brandon Douglas Shanahan pleaded guilty to a pair of counts of interstate communications with intent to extort. He was sentenced Tuesday.

Shanahan used the username "Camsutton2323" on Snapchat last year and convinced women he was former Volunteers cornerback Cameron Sutton, now a Pittsburgh Steelers rookie, prosecutors said. Shanahan then tried to extort the women into sending him nude photos.

Sutton didn't know Shanahan was impersonating him, Officials said.

Shanahan, 23, reached a plea deal in November that recommended an 18-month prison sentence. The agreement was revoked after officials found evidence of "new criminal conduct."
